Siena Tuscany Italy Sienna (Siena in Italian) is second only to Florence as a Tuscan "art" town, and, for many, its much smaller size and the absence of traffic in the historical centre make it more than the equal of Florence as a place to enjoy the treasures of Romanesque and Renaissance Italy, as well as the modern Italian lifestyle. The wonderful expanse of the Piazza del Campo and the Duomo are the most important destinations for tourists visiting Siena, closely followed by the Palazzo Pubblico and the Ospedale di Santa Maria della Scala in Siena. The palio horse race takes place twice a year and is one of the most important festivals of Tuscany.

Worth an extended visit.
