The
Castle of Vicchiomaggio is in fact a splendid Renaissance villa
incorporating the remains of a very early, probably Lombard,
castle. It is also a producer of some of the best Chianti Classico
wines - indeed, some of the best wines in Italy.
Vicchiomaggio occupies a strategic hilltop location on the
Chiantigiana road from Florence through Greve in Chianti to Sienna, with
wonderful views over the vineyards and the neighbouring villas,
including the Castello di Verrazzano. Vicchiomaggio offers
accommodation and also excellent wine tasting that can be combined
with a traditional Tuscan meal at the castle restaurant.
Worth a brief visit. More about
Castello di Vicchiomaggio. |
