Cittą
della Pieve in Umbria overlooks the Val
di Chiana towards the western frontier of Umbria, about 20 km south of
Lake Trasimeno and 8 km from Chiusi in Tuscany. Cittą della Pieve is more a
town than a city and is an attractive, compact locality. Its churches and
the houses of its nobility were built of brick within a fairly short time span, from the late mediaeval period into the Renaissance, thus giving the town a happy unity of style.
Pietro Vannucci, known as "Perugino", was born in Cittą della Pieve and some of his works may be seen here.
Cittą della Pieve
is reputed to have the narrowest street of Italy (via Baciadonne),
so named because it's possible to lean out a window on one side
and kiss the woman leaning out opposite. The Palio dei Terzieri is
the major festival of Citą della Pieve and one of the best festivals
of Tuscany.
Worth a visit.
